Balkanic culture is very abundant in its traditions. Every major event was celebrated with specific traditional garments. Handcraft has its origin from ancient times till nowadays. People passed this craft on from one generation to another. Different ethnics and generations respect and appreciate the importance and spiritual value of this culture.

One of the most important and beautiful events that occurs in our life is marriage. People in Balkanic countries used to celebrate this event at least three days with traditional dances and a plenty of appetizing traditional food. Bride and bridegroom put on special garments. Long long ago they wore very graceful and delicate ornamented clothing.

This pair of dolls represents the newlyweds in clothes depicting Moldovan peasants at their important event. Our Bridegroom has new black woolen hat, white long shirt, white pants, wide belt and waistcoat. One important item for bridegroom at the weddings is red rose on the hat as a symbol of love.

Every item of his traditional garment is adorned by hand using different symbolic ornamentations. Bride, as usual, must be the most beautiful girl at a wedding. Bride used to wear white shirt, beautiful skirt, apron and red belt – a symbol of love. Also, bride has a white wedding veil.

All wedding garments with different ornamentation were pompously adorned by professional craftsmen. Often, chemises were decorated with glossy thread making the bride’s dress more beautiful and shining. Either glass or pearl necklaces were indispensable items at all important events, though this item as a rule characterized only people’s wealth.
